Update on Recommended Services

Sometimes it is easy to forget about some of the great services available that you are able to use to promote your business, product or websites.

One that I don’t use often enough is a site crazily called Social Monkee!

The basic use of this site is completely free and allows you to submit one of your URL’s, once a day, to twenty five social networking sites.

This creates a number of backlinks to your URL which is perfect for Search Engine Optimization purposes.

You can only submit a URL one time, this stops the social networks blocking you for abuse, but you submit as many URL’s from one site as you want.

I have just finished an experiment on a six month old site using nothing but the free service from Social Monkee.

A different URL from the same site was submitted every day for two weeks, nothing else, no other form of promotion at all was done.

Then two weeks later I checked the visitor and site statistics on Google Analytics.

For the first five months there had been a slowly increasing trickle of visitors, with a high of just under sixty unique visitors in the week before I started the experiment.

The first week of the experiment showed that there had been eighty unique visitors….

The second week showed over three hundred unique visitors!

More importantly the results from search engine referrals showed that the keywords that I had used to promote the URL’s were starting to be found on both Google and Bing.

This has to be more than coincidence and to my mind simply reinforces the belief that I have in the power of backlinking.

I use a number of different services, mostly paid ones, to build links but in this instance I tested using only Social Monkee so that no other factors came into play.

Domains For Sale

As many of you are aware I really rate running a network of niche blogs that target different subjects, and different audiences.

Over the past few years I have probably set up around 150 or so niche blogs on a huge variety of subjects.

At the moment I am in the process of consolidating my blogs to target niches that I have a personal interest in, so some of my domains that are outside of these niches are now for sale.

Free WordPress Plugins

I simply love WordPress, it is my CMS of choice for just about all of my niche sites

BUT…

It misses out on some functions that are really handy to have, which is where plugins come in.

If you don’t know what a plugin is then in a nutshell they are pieces of code which can be added to WordPress to make something happen.

There are hundreds, if not thousands, of plugins available. Some are free, some are paid, but here are a few free ones that I use extensively in my network of blogs.

These require a one-time activation and registration but this only takes a minute or so.

Here are today’s recommendations, in no particular order:

MaxBlogPress Unblockable Popup – This plugin does exactly what it says it does, creates pop ups.

Love them or hate them it doesn’t really matter, they work!

Add your favorite or latest affiliate offer, make your list signup form more obvious, remind someone how much you value their custom, or anything else that you may feel is relevant… get this one now while it’s still free.

MaxBlogPress Stripe Ads – This plugin adds a small advertising stripe to your page, unobtrusive but very effective. Easy to set up and use, one of my favorites…

MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer – This plugin gets around one of WordPresses weak points, site pinging. By default WP pings, or notifies, other sites as posts are added to your admin area. If you schedule a number of posts to appear over time then what happens is WP pings them all at creation time, then pings the same post again if you go back and edit it at any time.

This plugin only pings when a post is published and goes live, and also doesn’t ping every time you edit a post.

A good plugin to have which may just save your blog being banned.
